What are friends?
Friends are people that you think are your friends
But they're really your enemies, with secret identities
and disguises, to hide they're true colors
So just when you think you're close enough to be brothers
they wanna come back and cut your throat when you ain't lookin

What I think the first quotation means, is that no matter how rich you are, life would not be worth living without the company of friends. Then the second (which shows more of a negative side) talks about how even your friends are your enemies, and just when you think you'll be friends forever, then they see you're at your weakest and take advantage of you.
 (at least that's what I got out of it) You can see in the quotations, there are two sides of "you wouldn't want to, or couldn't live without friends," but then the other "you're friends will kill you" so basically it's a constant battle of staying alive.
