1. Qualities of a good book in my opinion are; fiction or non-fiction life stories, a book that is moderately detailed (isn't excessively detailed...like Lord of the Rings) and I also like a good action or drama.

2.The books I've read have included at least two of these qualities. For example, I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for probably the third time so far. It is a book that includes a lot of detail, but isn't excessive. At the moment I'm reading the second book of the Maus collection. It has all the qualities I look for, except the only critique I have about it is that it trails off a bit at times ( Vladek might start talking about how he's irritated by his current wife etc..). At basically the end of the book though, there was a real picture of Vladek (Art Spiegelman's father [the guy he's interviewing]) from a bit after the war. It made the stories you just read about seem more real, so that was something I liked about the book.

I like the details that you provided about each book. A book I think you should read is "Seeds of time" by kc dyer. It is a book about a girl who goes to a summer school for art, and she discovers a cave around the school. She finds out that the cave can take you back into time. I think you would enjoy the book. Also what is another book that you enjoy other than Lord of the rings, harry potter, and Maus Collection?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion about "seeds of time" It sounds pretty interesting, so I'll check it out. Some other novels I've liked, are; V for Vendetta (another graphic novel), Mostly Happy (It's a fiction novel[not graphic] that tells you about a girls life from birth to about age 30)and, at the moment I am now reading Jane Eyre which seems to be quite intriguing.
DeleteI agree with your opinion about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The details that are given in that novel are important details about either the character or situation, but not excessive. The details were were descriptive enough that it helped give a picture in your head about what is going on, yet still left you wondering the next situations outcome.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your opinion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The details are just right. I also agree that when books trail off it can feel as if it is off topic. What is the Maus collection about?
ReplyDeleteThe Maus collection is about a man who is interviewing his dad about what his experiences were like during WW2. Only instead of drawing everything as people, he shows the Jews as mice, and the Germans as cats. In my opinion they were good books, especially if you like graphic novels.
DeleteI have read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and i agree that the there is a lot of detail but doesn't trail off and get off topic. It lets you know whats going on in the plot without getting confused.
